Tuesday, August 31st

Today we did the following:
Circulated a K Boy order list - tomorrow is the last day to order a copy ($12) through me
Completed questions 17-31 on the Wuthering Heights M/C AP packet (not for a grade)

Tonight - submit your story to turnitin.com BEFORE midnight

Tomorrow (Wednesday, Sept.1) - bring a hard copy of your story to class AND be ready to voice at least three insightful and specific comments about Nickel and Dimed.

Word of the day: incorrigible - incapable of being corrected
The incorrigible student failed to staple his homework before the bell, despite his sweet English teacher's gentle chiding.

See you tomorrow!

Monday, Monday

Today in class we took the quote test on the summer reading.  If you were absent today, you may take the test on Friday, September, 3rd at lunch.

Our next book will be Kaffir Boy by Mark Mathabane.  Although I am not positive, I believe that I can get them for you at a discounted price of $12.   Please let me know by Wednesday at the latest if you would like to buy one through me.

Tomorrow we will practice AP-style M/C questions on Wuthering Heights.
Also tomorrow night your vocabulary story is due on turnitin.com before midnight.  Some of you have had trouble signing on to turnitin.com.  I have contacted their help desk and hope to have an answer to your problems in class tomorrow.

Wednesday we will have a discussion, perhaps a graded discussion, on Nickel and Dimed, and you will publish and submit your vocabulary story, hard copy.

Thursday and Friday, you will write your essay on Nickel and Dimed, and Friday you will turn in your theme journal(s) on all three summer reading books.

Should I give extra credit to anyone who is a follower on this blog?

Have a great night!

Second Day of school

Hello Scholars:

Today we discussed basic syntax and one of the summer reading books.  I did not take any grades.

Tomorrow is the last day to turn in your pink acknowledgement sheet for a "100."

Green vocabulary sheets are due tomorrow EXCEPT for fourth period.  (The due date for fourth period is Thursday.)  Remember to complete both columns ("definition" and "POS") for the vocabulary words and the first two columns ("definition" and "example") for the rhetorical terms - you need not complete the "effect" column for the rhetorical terms..

Bring all three summer reading books each day to class through Friday, September, 3rd.  Make sure that you have read those books.

Theme journals are due Friday, September 3rd.

Hasta manana,

Ms. Seward

First Day of school

Students,

I truly enjoyed meeting you today.

Today in class we reviewed the Policies and Procedures.  Remember that Homework #1 is due this Wednesday, August 25th.  One hundred easy points!

Unless you are in fourth period, we also reviewed the first vocabulary list and discussed Homework #2, which is to complete the list by Wednesday, August 25th (fourth period's due date for list #1 is Thursday, August 26th)  - another one hundred easy points!  Just make sure that you complete every blank, including POS and the effects of the rhetorical devices.

Homework #3, the vocabulary story, is due Tuesday, August 31st (turnitin.com) and Wednesday, September 1st in class.

Continue to read about Eustacia, Cathy, and Babs.  Embrace these complex women.

See you tomorrow!

Ms. Seward

Four more days ...

Are the Heights still Wuthering?  Has the Native returned yet?  Do you know how Barbara Ehrenreich feels about Walmart?

If your answers to these questions embarrass you, do not fret - just keep reading!   Reliance on an inferior substitute such as the dreaded Sparknotes will cause you days, perhaps weeks, possibly years, of regret.

Sleep the sleep of the just.  Reading the books is good for your soul, not to mention your gray matter.

Four more days!

Ms. Seward
