Feels like Monday, but it's already Tuesday!
Today in class, you took a practice quiz on the first 15 words on your vocabulary sheet. You also took a quote quiz on the Sedaris packet.
Tomorrow, you will have a quiz on simple syntax and the first 15 words from your vocabulary sheet. If for some reason you do not have your green sheet (probably my fault), the words are as follows: incoherent, blatant, aside, affected/affectation, condescending, vituperative, patronizing, sardonic, meek, petulance, fawn, censorious/censure, ambivalent, chide, and deprecate.
Please make sure that you know how to write the following sentences: (i) compound sentence with a semicolon; (ii) compound sentence with a comma and a coordinating conjunction; (iii) complex sentence beginning with a subordinate clause; and (iv) complex sentence beginning with an independent clause.
We will also discuss the specific writing techniques that Sedaris uses to engage his readers.
Thursday, you will have a quiz on the rest of the vocabulary words from list #1, and you show know the significance of Rosh Hashanah.
Friday, you will have a quiz on all of the vocabulary words from list #1 in the form of a crossword puzzle; you will not have a word bank, so spelling and a profound relationship with these words are important.
Enjoy this rainy weather!
