TGI Almost Winter Holiday Break!

Scholars, your grades have been finalized and are on gradespeed for your perusal.

I hope that you are recovering from the trauma of the final exam and are realizing two facts:

(i) it is okay to attempt difficult tasks; and
(ii) the harder the test, the bigger the curve.

I hope that you have a joyous break!  Thank you being such great students this year, and I look forward to seeing you all next year.

Remember to read and annotate through page 120 of In Cold Blood by January 11th.

Bye for two weeks!

The penultimate Friday of the semester - 12/10/10

Scholars, today you all were so impressive, in very different ways.

Today we began to parse rhetorically "The Ways We Lie" after discussing same on a conceptual basis yesterday.  Remember the following:  How does the author manipulate language to make meaning?

Also remember to explain clearly, embed quotes, and link your commentary to the author's thesis.

We also discussed "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus" and learned just what type of tyke John/Jack Williams was.

Monday, please bring the following:

"The Ways We Lie";
"Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus"; and
Your lavender review sheet, which is the only page you will be able to bring into the final exam.  I will answer questions about your review sheet ONLY IF you have completed your review sheet before class.  Simply put, I ain't no dictionary.

Have a wonderful weekend!  Tip du jour: study to learn, not simply to dump and regurgitate.  Just a thought.

Thursday, December 9, 2010

Students,

Today we discussed "The Ways We Lie" by Stephanie Ericsson.

Tomorrow we will continue to review "The Ways We Lie," more rhetorically this time, and then discuss "Yes, Virginia," which you will have read and annotated.

In Cold Blood is on sale for $12; please note that we will have a reading assignment due early in January.

Below is your final exam review sheet in table form, which you will receive today or tomorrow.  The sheet is printed in purple, for your ease of reference.
