Let's eat babies!

Today in class we did the following:

Two SAT QODs, which are copied and pasted below:

First question: Choose the word or set of words that, when inserted in the sentence, best fits the meaning of the sentence as a whole.

Barbara McClintock's systematic examination of corn demonstrated the transposition of genes, a finding that overturned entrenched beliefs and proved that ------- study may produce brilliant insights and ------- change.

Second question: Choose the word or set of words that, when inserted in the sentence, best fits the meaning of the sentence as a whole.

To believe that social reforms can ------- evil altogether is to forget that evil is a protean creature, forever assuming a new ------- when deprived of an old one.

C.  click to choose answer C   mitigate . . providence

We also confirmed the definitions of the following words:  endemic, relenting, ephemeral, resolute, erratic, revisionist, extraneous, irrefutable,  and antithetical.

We also read and discussed part of "A Modest Proposal."  You should know the definition of a satire, which is a work that mocks an evil of society in order to expose and cure that ill; Juvenalian satire, which is harsh and biting satire, Horatian satire, which is gentler and more playful in tone then Juvenalian.

You should also know the definition of "rhetoric," how to describe Aristotle's rhetorical triangle, and the three appeals of ethos, pathos, and logos.

Fifth period also played "Around the World" and learned that Roosevelt Padilla knows ALL of the vocabulary words - so should you.
In fact, for twenty minutes each night until Friday, you should review your vocabulary words and read through "A Modest Proposal" because your test on Friday will cover PSAT/SAT questions and "A Modest Proposal."

All for now!
