Today we reviewed the following vocabulary words:
Compel to force – I feel compelled to ask you to do your homework.

Eminent – noble, outstanding – The eminent scientist split the atom.

Tempest –a storm – We had quite the tempest last night - so much thunder!
|
Paragon – a model of excellence – Mark Mathabane is a paragon of excellence.
|
Profane – vulgar – That girl cursing in the hall is so profane.
|
Abhor – to detest – I abhor liars.
|
Mutiny – rebellion – The class rose in mutiny against the abusive teacher.
|
Egregious – extremely bad – The murdered egregiously broke the law.
|
Taint – contaminate – The boy tainted the water by pouring paint in it.
|
Aimless (3) – without direction – The friends spent an aimless afternoon floating down the river.
|
Ramshackle (4) on the verge of collapse. The ramshackle shack had seen better days.
|
Beneficence (5)the state of being charitable – Mother Theresa’s beneficence was known throughout the community.
|
Edifice (6) – Large building – Wheatley High School is am impressive edifice.
|
Credible (7) - believable or reasonable
|

You also will submit your annotations tomorrow through page 100 of In Cold Blood for a grade. You must read and annotate through page 130 for Friday.
