On the third day...

Ninth graders:

Completed a warm-up with homophones and wrote for several minutes on one of the following topics:  What I would do with a million dollars; Does love at first sight exist?; or what would I do on the last day on earth?

Ninth graders also finish their review of the parts of speech and defined vocabulary words for "The Most Dangerous Game."

Homework #1 (the signature page from the Policies and Procedures) was due today.
Homework #2, sentences with the homophones, is due on Friday, August 30th.
Homework #3, sentences with vocabulary from the "Most Dangerous Game," is due Wednesday, September 4th.
 
AP Seniors completed their "I am" poems.
They also confirmed the definition of a list of SAT words and reviewed the structure of a compound sentence. 
Homework #1 (the signature page from the Policies and Procedures) was due today.
Sentences with the SAT vocabulary words, eight of which must be compound, is due Friday, August 30th.

First and second days of school

Welcome back, Scholars!

I have enjoying meeting you these last two days.  Please note the following:

Ninth graders:  Homework #1, the signature page from your Rules and Procedures packet, is due Wednesday, August 28th. 
Homework #2, sentences with homophones, is due Friday, August 30th.

In class you have created a footprint that reflects yourself and your future.  

AP Juniors:  Homework #1, the signature page from your Rules and Procedures, is due Thursday, August 29th.  Today in class you wrote a reflective poem and read and analyzed Leonard Pitts's commentary on the film The Butler and racism in America.

Thursday partners will present their analyses on their assigned paragraphs of the Pitts article.

AP Seniors:  Homework #1, the signature page from the Rules and Procedures, is due Wednesday, August 28th.  You also wrote a reflective poem, which we will publish on Wednesday.  We also started taking notes on Beowulf, portions of which we will read and analyze in class.
