Hump Day!

Today we began to unravel the chameleon, the late, great Malcolm X.  We watched two clips of Malcolm X interviews and wrote about them.  If you did not finish writing your short-short essay on your card in class, write for no more than ten minutes tonight and finish it up.  If you missed class, you can access the two clips by clicking on the links below:

After you watch these clips, please write a SHORT essay in the following format:

First paragraph - on sentence thesis stating one of your opinions about the interviews (or you may chose to write about just one interview);

Second paragraph - concrete details to support your thesis (remember that concrete details consists of observable evidence - no conclusion or opinions);

Third paragraph - your conclusion - two rules: (i) do not simply repeat your thesis in your conclusion; and (ii) do not begin your conclusion with the words "in conclusion."

Challenge yourself to expand your conclusion to include, inter alia, your feelings, your creativity, or a thematic observation.

You also received "Letter from a Birmingham Jail" today.  Please read and annotate this marvelous piece of rhetoric by Wednesday, April 29th.  Read and annotate a portion each night.  Bask in the genius and eloquence of Dr. King.

Please bring Malcolm X tomorrow.

Have a wonderful evening!  I'm off to the opera!
